YESTERDAY, TODAY AND TOMORROW PLANT

I had a friend whose Mother grew this evergreen shrub in her flower beds. I remember being fascinated by the name when I was a young teen and totally too romantic. The common name of Yesterday-Today-and Tomorrow comes from the quick change in the flower colors from purple to lavender to white. I've read that in partial shade the plant can reach 10 feet, but can be kept pruned to about 3 feet quite easily. Daisy Belle's Mother's plants were rather tall, and I think taller than 10 feet. Of course, I was shorter then so maybe they weren't. : )

Yesterday-today-and-tomorrow is known to contain poisonous alkaloids. The berries are especially toxic to dogs. You might know a cool plant like this would have drawbacks. I wouldn't take a chance on it around my animals but it sure is interesting. It reminds me of the Confederate Rose and how it changes from white, to pale pink to rose before the day is over. Now I have two of those but as far as I know, they are not poisonous.

Well, it's beautiful. But you might know, I have these two crazy dogs who eat everything. I'll have to look at it from afar!

What an interesting plant. I had never heard of one before...you have some very cool shrubs in your yard!!! I like the idea of tall bushiness as a screen (a living screen) between my and my neighbors yard...so soft and friendly compared to a wooden privacy fence! I am trying to get different heights and colors going along that line for some very pretty privacy!!

Julie, this is not one I have in my yard. I am afraid for the animals but I sure wish I could have it. Billy loves it too. They do grow it down here on the Coast though.

Lovely plant, a dozen years ago I found one at a big box store but wasn't able to keep it alive inside all winter.

A Plant that changes colors, that is so neat! We have Anole Lizards and they change color. LOL. We are on the edge of the zone so not sure they would make it here but we will not give them a try as we have neighbors dogs come into the yard to visit regularly. Dont want to take a risk even though they usually come for a doggie treat them home again...

As I type this, there are 4 juvenile finches taking a bath in the bird bath with a juvenile Cardinal. Looks as though the Cardinal is their segregate mother! I love nature…

This is a wonderful plant and I have grown it successfully in gardens in South Africa in full heat and sun and in Marin County California. My container attempts have also been successful in Hong Kong balcony and on a Paris terrace so do not be afraid of your temperature--it thrives outside on my terrace and the fragrance wafts through the open doors. I have had dogs all my life and at every one of the above gardens/terraces and still have two who do eat everything except my plants!!! IT IS A MATTER OF DOGGY DISCIPLINE! One of them ate an entire fragrant and very expensive orchid plant and that was the first and last time she or the other dog have touched any of my plants...now shoes and socks are a different matter.
Good luck.
