As lovely as soft bits of fragile crinkled silk,
These rosy blossoms, clustered thick upon the heavy drooping boughs,
When shaken by a summer wind,
Drop down in swirling showers,
And drift awhile about the ground;
Then gathered into frothy heaps beneath the hedge,
They spread a frill of rosy lace around the green lawns edge.

I took my camera outside today to see if I could get a picture of something to show you. I took a picture of my Pampas Grass, my Cane, the Cashmere Bouquet, the garden, but none of it really thrilled me. Then I turned and saw my pretty Crape Myrtle and this one particular bloom, caught my eye. This tree has the prettiest color flowers. Please click on the pic to enlarge and look at those undeveloped buds of deep purple against the pink. It is so pretty. I have to keep this cut back each year because it is growing beneath a Pecan tree which give us a lot of shade and in the South, you can never have too much shade.

Most of my Crape Myrtles are blooming, but I have one that just leafs out and doen't bloom any more. I think I need to fertilize it and them maybe it will bloom...
This is one of my favorite trees in the yard! We have one the same color as this one and it has the largest blooms this year! They are so large the branches are toughing the ground! Argggg, difficult to mow around but oh so beautiful. The one this color is in full bloom and the other 8 are just starting to show some pink. We have 12 myrtles along the street front that never bloom due to lack of sunshine from the shade trees above them. Lucy, does your non-blooming tree receive enough sun? That could be your problem as I have not fertilized a Myrtle in the 7 years we have lived here! I do keep pine straw along the trunk though....
Gorgeous! Such beautiful color
I love crepe myrtle. I have three that I think are the same color as this one. This one is gorgeous.
We are seeing these all up Florida and all over Georgia as well, on our vacation! They are so pretty right now...I love seeing them the size of huge trees!
They say Crepe Myrtles grow here in the desert, but so few people have them that I wouldn't want to take a chance. They are beautiful.
