I don't have him anymore,,,,he is gone with the wind..Hurricane Katrina to be exact....Since then, my DH has cut back some of the Pampas Grass...I love it but he doesn't....I did save one big clump of it though.
Our sq ft garden bed around March 25. I only had one bed set out with cabbage, broc, lettuce, peas, and radishes,,,I used carrot tape for three squares but it is growing so slow,,,I am thinking about planting something else there..
We had an unexpected freeze just after I planted my first bed,,,It did slow down the growth on the broccoli and I though I had lost my tomatoes and peppers but they came back strong. The broccoli flowered to soon, so I cut off the tops and they are now making new heads...so all in all, I just lost a few bush beans which I planted again right away. They are now doing great...I will get the rest of my pics uploaded to flickr in a few days..I am new at this, so bear with me..My first blog...
I decided to have a square foot garden this year, I am not doing it exactly like Mel did in his book but I did use some of his ideas...I lay it out in square foot sections but I use my own mix of manure, compost, etc and I used hay under my beds,,so it will gradully compost and add to the soil,,,meanwhile keeping the weeds down,,I also mulch with hay everywhere..in the middle of the boxes and around the plants. I learn to use hay when I did the Ruth Stout style of gardening when we lived in the country,,,Never had to weed,,It was wonderful but we no longer need that much produce so I decided to go this route.
I built my boxes, four feet by 12 foot....and about 8 inches deep. We built them, on top of a layer of hay, and then filled with a soil mixture we purchased from a garden center,,,it is the mix they use and has compost, peat moss, lime and other things that I am not sure of but it works so well for them...I added ten year old manure and stirred it all in.
I have three cats,,two boys and a girl and a little, eleven year old mixed dog named Solo. That's my little
girl, Meshe in the pic..She is much prettier than I am, so I chose her for my pic. I also have a very nice DH named Billy. He's a keeper.
